Thought about having your teeth whitened? Not sure what is involved?
Tooth Whitening is safe if carried out by a trained Dental Professional
Some commonly asked questions
What does the treatment involve?
Your Dentist will check your teeth, oral hygiene and discuss options available to develop an overall treatment plan to suit you. If tooth whitening is appropriate for you, impressions will be taken to construct a special application tray which will fit around your teeth. At your next visit your Dentist will ensure the application tray fits comfortably and give you instructions on how to apply the whitening gel.
What is used to whiten my teeth?
You are provided with a home kit containing a carefully controlled concentration of bleach which is placed into the specially made application trays.
How long will my teeth stay white?
Teeth stain with tea, coffee, wine, cola, nicotine and naturally darken with age. Avoiding these substances will keep your teeth white, but we appreciate this is very difficult. So we recommend that you keep your tray and do a top up treatment a couple of times a year or for that special occasion!
Are there any side effects?
There are very few side effects. However if you suffer from sensitivity to either hot or cold, your Dentist should be able to treat this. Any side effects are temporary and disappear after a short period of time.
Will this process whiten my white fillings, veneers and crowns?
Unfortunately not. If your restorations need replacing your Dentist will discuss a treatment plan with you. If you have dental work that needs to be done, whiten your teeth first so that the new restorations match your whiter teeth.
